3 Best Porn Blockers for iPhone

Most of the people I know have iPhones.

All iPhones have a Safari browser that can't be uninstalled, so before I get to the best porn blockers for iPhone users, I want to focus on some options for avoiding the Safari browser entirely.

First, we'll look at how to disable Safari and tweak default settings that can help set you up for quicker success.

Blocking iPhone Web Browsers (Safari and others)

Consider whether or not you need a browser on your phone at all.

A lot of people do and that's fine. But the easiest way to mitigate pornography on your phone is to not use a browser at all. We'll cover several ways to use a browser and still block porn, but if you're okay without one, here's how to deal with Safari.

Open Settings and go into Screen Time

From there click on "Content & Privacy Restrictions."

From there, you can restrict access via the following options:

  • iTunes & App Store Purchases
  • Allowed Apps

Disable Safari through "Allowed Apps" and the the App Store through "iTunes & App Store Purchases." To setup the passcode, I would advise giving that to a spouse, family member, or close friend who you would then need to put the passcode back in for you to make changes.

Whenever you need to download updates or if you do need another app, just have them put in the passcode and then re-enable it when you're done.

Ok - for those who do need a browser, here are some of your best iPhone porn blocking options.

1. Covenant Eyes

Covenant Eyes

Try it out: Covenant Eyes Accountability Software

Covenant Eyes is not technically a porn blocker, but it can give you a browser on your phone that matches up with its accountability software and protects you on your iPhone.

Basically it provides what they call accountability reports to a partner of your choosing through email, which covers your browser history in total. These people can see everything you browse when they get the report, thus you're motivated to avoid porn for obvious reasons.

The problem with iPhone is that it can't track a mobile browser like it can on a desktop, where it can follow any browser at all.

The solution is a combination of the Covenant Eyes browser (which they can track) and the process we outlined above. Here are the steps:

  1. Download the Covenant Eyes browser app on your phone
  2. Go through the above process to disable Safari and the App Store
  3. Log in to your Covenant Eyes account and use the Covenant Eyes browser as your only browser.

The CE browser isn't the greatest, but it's a better option than dealing with the constant temptation of pornography on your phone. If you don't have a Covenant Eyes account, you can sign up using the link below or above. If you have questions about getting it going, hit me up in the comments section below and I'll help out.

The most effective way to stop using porn on your iPhone

Covenant Eyes is accountability software that allows you to send reports to trusted friends and/or family members that will show them your internet activity and help keep you free from pornography. Solutions are available for desktop and mobile platforms.

2. Porn Blocker Plus for Safari

Porn Blocker Plus

Try it out: Porn Block Plus for Safari

Here's an option that will let you keep Safari as your primary browser.

Porn Blocker Plus is not accountability software like Covenant Eyes, but instead is a more traditional blocker iPhone app that automatically blocks millions of porn sites (crazy there are that many) and allows you to block specific URLs as well.

Once you have things configured, you can set a passcode just like the Screen Time approach in your phone's settings.

Once you have this set up, I'd also recommend doing a passcode for the App Store on your phone, otherwise you can simply download a different browser.

Using Porn Blocker Plus in conjunction with the iPhone Settings approach is very effective and essentially FULL PROOFS your iPhone from porn.

3 BlockerX

BlockerX Home Page

Try it out: BlockerX

BlockerX combines several of the strategies we've seen with the above applications.

  • Accountability
  • Filtering
  • Covering existing browsers

It also has a lot of features that can help you pair down ads, social media, gambling, and other time-wasting sites. It even tracks your most used apps, helps you measure your progress, and takes more of a "your journey" approach to help you along the way.

If you're looking for something a little more comprehensive than just a blocker or accountability software, BlockerX is sort of the "jack of all trades" that gets you a little bit of everything.

Is it possible to break a porn addiction on an iPhone without these apps?

It's going to be extremely difficult to break a porn addiction with an unbridled internet connection on an iPhone. These devices are with you almost all the time and in their default form offer no incentive or preventative measures to avoid porn use.

After some time passes and you get better at avoiding porn and the urges that come with it, you can likely move away from these apps.

Though many people keep them on in perpetuity as a safeguard.

Is it more effective to just get rid of my phone?

Technically, yes.

Simply removing the source of temptation is an option that would work, in a sense. But I would argue this doesn't deal with the root cause or the habits surrounding porn use.

Even without a phone, you will find ways to access porn. Short of getting rid of all devices, including desktop computers, removing the iPhone doesn't really mitigate the habit or the problem.

Plus, in a world where technology is becoming increasingly important, it's not a good idea to prevent developing self-control and employing solutions that allow you to function in a technological world.

How much do these apps cost?

Some programs have pricing tiers, and it just depends on the app you choose.

Covenant Eyes pricing is the simplest example, as they charge the following:  ERROR

Other apps will offer free and paid features, usually at similar price points.

Conclusion and Questions

There are a lot of good things about iPhones. They help us keep in touch with friends and family, allow us to do things like banking and meeting with people quicker, help us find our way around when traveling, and even run a business.

But like most things in life, there's a balance that needs to be struck.

A phone can be used for things that damage you all the same.

So I'd recommend using one of these apps to help curb and ultimately eliminate porn use.

They're the best porn blockers for iPhone users that we know to recommend.
